This is my home library, and the Lucky Day fiction selections are consistently awesome. My oldest actually took her first steps here over a decade ago! We really like the children's area; they have fun scavenger hunts and great drop-in programming every month. The "Friends of the Fitchburg Library" used book sales here a few times a year (and the sale shelves with new donations available daily) are worth visiting. Staff are very helpful as well.

Very friendly staff and well organized place. It’s busy all year doing useful creative activities for people from different ages. (Children, teenagers, and adults).
On Halloween occasion the event they did blew my children’s minds away, especially the magic show and figure scavenger.
It has a big collection of new books

Horrible library. The staff are mean and I would advise anyone I know to avoid this library at all costs. There are some great alternative libraries within 15 mins that are great. I had a staff member threatening to call the cops on me because I was finishing an exam 2 minutes prior to closing. I had vacated the building by 8:01. I left in tears and it was traumatizing.

Brought my books back and was told I would have to come back a separate day to get my hold so that the system could process the books. It's ridiculous that there's no override for this allowed and that the librarians can't help with returns if needed.

VERY UNFRIENDLY "CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN"

I am at the library and have been here for 5 minutes. My six year old son went to the children's section and I told him I would be over once I was done browsing the new collection right by the front door.

The two librarians at the front desk actually commented how cute it was that my son was so excited to be at the library. They did not say anything about a "policy".

One in the children's space, he asked the "children's librarian" a question at their desk... The "children's librarian" then marched him over to me, to inform me that the library policy is children under 7 may not be "unattended". She asked if he was seven, and I informed her he's not. I then asked if he was causing a problem, or misbehaving, and she informed me that he wasn't, but he came up to ask a question, unattended, and that's unsupervised and against "policy".

A librarian with clearly nothing better to do, than enforce arbitrary rules when a child is behaving, and a mom takes literally less than five minutes to browse book titles for herself, is NOT a family friendly library.

Parents can't have 3 minutes to browse titles while walking into the building... And children don't deserve patron services when they politely request them. Got it.

I have never been treated this way at a Madison library branch, or our home library of Verona.

It's is 1015am on Thursday and the library is not busy. My child was behaving, and I was taking a minute to look at book titles for myself.

Shame on you. Kids that are excited to read and be in the library should be praised and encouraged... Not treated like criminals- when they literally have done nothing wrong and are acting older than your arbitrary age rule.

Lots of bright, open space here due to the building layout. Always check their website before going as they close sometimes for staff in-services and snowy weather predictions. Park in the basement parking when it's super hot or cold outside!

Beautiful library, great community programming options. Wonderful place to take the kids. One of the most important parts of the Fitchburg community.
