Shinjuku Giant 3D Cat (I call it Shinjuku Cute Cat, aka Cross Shinjuku Vision) is a billboard created by Cross Shinjuku Vision. It is located in front of the East exit of Shinjuku station. In the midst of the huzzle buzzle urban centre a gigantic mascot, a 3D animated cat, perched on a building edge attracted numerous passerby and tourists alike every day and night since its building in July 2020. It has been a social media favorite and one of the most popular instagrammable photos since then. Virtually many passersby stop and watch the cat’s show every day. The daily show time is from 7am to 1am. At 7am, It wakes up and stretches to start its day. Throughout the day it speaks and meows in a small microphone with its cute voice and makes funny moves. Sometimes it rolls in its back or plays around joyfully. At 1am it lays down and falls asleep for the night.

Shinjuku cute cat’s friend, a giant Godzilla Head, is built on 8/F at the nearby Gracery Hotel in Kabukicho. People were allowed access to the
8/F terrace to view the Godzilla head closely, however the terrace is not opened for public viewing any more. The Godzilla daily show (roars and smoke) happens every hour from noon till 8pm.

As of 2024, a total of 3 big and popular 3D billboards can be found in Tokyo: the Shinjuku cute cat in Kabukicho, the playful akita inu puppy near Shibuya Station, a funny panda sits on top of the Yamashita Honki Udon shop, located near the entrance of Shibuya Center Gai.

Even though the appearance of the cat is such a short period of time but it was super cool and great to experience it.

We just passed by going somewhere else and wasn't even aware until we looked up and saw the giant cat. It looked so realistic and three-dimensional we ended up staying for quite a while. For as long as we were there in the cold (January 2024), the animation didn't repeat and it even appeared on the other building.

Worth seeing if you around Shinjuku area!

Finding a good spot here that doesn't end up blocking pedestrians here might be a challenge but we'll worth it. Stick around for a while as you see various different advertisements being played.

Of course the cat makes a frequent appearance but every once in a while you get to enjoy something that isn't played frequently. Best to come here at night so that the illuminations are vividly displayed.

Once you're done you can head over to Omoide Yokocho for some delicious yakitori and Highball!

This visual display is a clever 3D rendering optical illusion as you pass through the city streets. A popular photo opportunity and attraction as you transit through the city.

The cute 3D calico cat has three patterns, and you can see different unique animations depending on when you visit. In the morning, it wakes up; in the afternoon, it stands and meows; at night, it starts to fall asleep. Sometimes it looks around, sometimes it changes its position, and even in the ever-busy square outside of Shinjuku Station's East Exit, people stop and gaze at the adorable creature. This cat is bringing new energy to the city after it was struck by the pandemic.

This is a must when in Tokyo. Everyone stops by the 3D cat. Not sure if it actually has a name? We walked past everyday as our hotel was nearby. Don't miss it!
