My name is Dr. Kimberly Alba and I am a clinical assistant professor at Stony Brook University's (SBU's) Renaissance School of Medicine. I had the pleasure of collaborating with Primitive Agency and Kelly Lizcano for SBU's Renaissance School of Medicine's Second, Annual Healthcare Without Borders Conference. The Conference gathers healthcare professionals, community based organizations and community members in identifying culturally sustaining and trauma informed practices when accompanying immigrant families in care.

The Conference was held virtually and we needed a team that could edit a video of an artist's spoken word poem where they courageously shared their immigration story. Primitive Agency was collaborative and intentional in their approach. They edited the video using culturally sensitive and celebratory images and music that moved many of our attendees. Most importantly, the artist felt that the video was a meaningful representation of her experience.
